The European Non-Commissioned Officer Academy (ENCOA) is a virtual non-commissioned officer academy in the field of international follow-on training. Within the framework of cooperation with Austria and Switzerland, the German Air Force has taken over lead responsibility for the development of this project.

Das Weiterbildungsangebot soll Kenntnisse in europäischen, landespolitischen und streitkräfterelevanten Aspekten, allgemeiner Landeskunde, Kultur, Bevölkerung, Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft vermitteln. Die Teilnehmer vertiefen so ihr Wissen über eine Partnernation.
Our aim is to provide follow-on training to non-commissioned officers of European armed forces on a voluntary basis using modern training technologies and maintaining contact with other nations. The follow-on training offered is to impart knowledge of European, national policy and armed forces aspects, general regional studies, culture, population, business and science. The participants thus deepen their knowledge of partner nations.
Distance training is the underlying methodical concept. The employment of an internet-based learning management system (ENCOA is powered by ILIAS – Integriertes Lern-, Informations- und Arbeitskooperationssystem (Integrated Learning, Information and Working Cooperation System)) allows the participating regular non-commissioned officers to learn at different locations and at the time of their choice as well as to communicate with each other. The students take in the course contents on their own, in a self-paced manner and constantly assisted by their supervising tutors. The methodical concept is completed by attendance phases within the scope of the distance learning phases and by various types of group cooperation.
The course contents include main topics and optional topics from which the participants have to choose one task that they have to work on independently within a fixed period.

The individual courses will extend over several weeks and are subdivided into a kick-off phase, a distance training phase and an attendance phase.
